Replica of Fokker Dr.1 425/17 at the German Museum, Munich

Build in 1975, this replica of the famous Fokker Triplane looks good at the first glance but the aviation expert will see it's flaws. Notice the exhaust opening being located above the centerline as well as the unrealistic wing roots of the middle and lower wings! Altough the replica was painted in the markings of Manfred von Richthofens famous 425/17 - the aircraft he was shot down with - a Cerget engine got installed instead of an Oberursel which brings up the question why the constructors did not paint this beautiful replica in the markings of Josef Carl Jacobs, the famous Jasta 7 pilot who flew an all black Triplane with a flame breathing angel head on the fuselage. Jacobs preferred the Clerget engines for his aircraft. It is said that Jacobs even gave crates of Champagne to infantry units for every captured Clerget that he could obtain.
Notice that the replica is fitted with an airscrew that looks like a Heine airscrew while the real 425/17 was equipped with a Garuda airscrew. A b/w picture of 427/17 will follow soon.
